William Douglas Staples, 93, of Henderson passed away at 11:30PM on February 27, 2017 at St. Anthony's Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center with his family by his side. He was born November 10, 1923 to the late Crafton and Alice Staples. He graduated from Hebbardsville High School. William was a WWII Army Veteran and the recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked hard all his life in construction and worked for Peyronnin Construction for over 40 years. He loved gardening and helping his family and neighbors with any project they may have had. He looked forward each year to planning and putting up his Christmas lights on his property. He would begin early each October and added more each year. He married the love of his life, Imogene VanCleve in 1946 and they had celebrated 70 years of marriage last March. William was preceded in death by his parents and his only sister, Martha Hazelwood. Survivors include his wife Imogene and his daughters Suzanne Wedding and her husband Larry of Henderson, Amy Lilly and her husband Jack of Owensboro, Alice Gonzalez and her husband John of Henderson, sons William C. Staples and his wife Charlene of Robards, Alan Staples and his wife Mary of Evansville, Aaron Staples and his wife Paula of Henderson, 10 adoring grandchildren: Julie Stephens, Joseph and Robert Rendle, William Raymond Staples, Jason and Lyndsey Staples, Jordan and Trent Staples, Nick and Brock Gonzalez and 14 beautiful great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday March 3, 2017 at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson from 4-8pm. Military rites will be conducted at 5:30PM at the funeral home by the American Legion Worsham Post 40 Honor Guard. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony's Hospice.
